Chair of APPG for Project Delivery welcomes Project Management Training for Senior Civil Servants

The APPG for Project Delivery welcomes the Government’s plans to include programme and project management and delivery training for senior civil servants in the new National School of Government and Public Services.

Following our inquiry into improving the delivery of national infrastructure projects, one of our key recommendations was mandatory project management training for senior civil servants to ensure an understanding of complex, long-term project delivery is embedded across Government.

Building project management and delivery capability across Government will be critical to avoiding past failures and ensuring that future projects are delivered on time, within budget, and deliver real value for communities and the economy.

Henry Tufnell MP, Chair of the APPG for Project Delivery, said:

“With billions in public and private funding ready to flow into infrastructure projects over the next decade, we have a generational opportunity to change people’s lives for the better.

Everything is pointing towards the need for a radical shift in how we deliver infrastructure projects. Offering project management and delivery training for senior civil servants, one of the key recommendations in our report, is the first step on this journey.

We urge the Government to consider the APPG’s other recommendations, which will clear the path towards better infrastructure delivery.”

We look forward to continue engaging with Government to improve the delivery of infrastructure projects across the UK.
